Take advantage of online resources to research the neighborhoods of Philadelphia. For a pretty good general description of Philadelphia neighborhoods, please check out: http://philadelphia.about.com/cs/neighborhoods/a/neighborhoods_3.htm Try to narrow down the choices through research and come up with a short list of potential neighborhoods. Then, you and your roommates should visit each of the areas on your list. Figure in your commute to school, or work, and check out the public transportation options. Once you've visited the neighborhoods, and you are in agreement with your roommates, you should begin your search for places to live. Many apartment and roommate locator services allow you to search by neighborhood.
